Sheridan Park develops Young Composers

Music teacher Jim Carswell knew his Grades 4 and 5 classes at Sheridan Park Public School were a talented bunch, so he put them up to a challenge – to compose their own music using Breezin’ Thru. In Jim’s words:

“Sheridan Park Public school in Mississauga, Ontario, was very fortunate to be able to test and try out the music theory programme, BREEZIN’ THRU. Students were thoroughly engaged, excited and challenged by the fresh and original composition activity “The 8 penny round”. We were then able to adapt it very successfully to the Grade 4 and 5 music curriculum and to the recorder unit the young students were currently working on! What a clever way to incorporate all the elements of notes, rhythm, and form into a simple concrete activity.”
